The first post of 2011-- A Fresh introduction

Good afternoon and happy new year,

So with 2011 officially in full swing, I am finally unleashing a BETA version of a blog aimed to focus in on us and only us (gen-Y). I want to keep this a niche blog, one that helps facilitate a place for proactive dialoguing and intellectual new progressive ideas.

If you're born between 1980 and somewhere in the early 90s, you're part of the Gen-Y upbringing; the generation of entitlement if you will, the generation that will be challenged by other power nations for the next 5-50 years of our lives. Essentially we will create and determine America's future, but I think we are in for some rude awakenings.

We have grown up in a time where everything has rushed and advanced our maturity, through technology, entertainment, and exposure--nothing is a secret anymore! We have watched the financial market shatter, and we have been front row witnesses to a government that spends more time figuring out how to trick Americans instead of helping to involve Americans.

The media has become out of control; running rampant with information overload, and they have created a new 'role model' of celebrities where young kids admire the most superficial individuals in the world. There has been a detrimental spike in competitiveness and no longer are people looked up to for their knowledge and wits, but now for their ability to get drunk on national TV and fist fight while all the time flashing their 6-pack abs (think reality TV, more specifically Jersey Shore)

This is all just scratching the surface to the much bigger problem going on in America; but it gives you a fair introduction, a nice reevaluation of where we are now. There is no positive spin-off to these issues, these are important, and big problems.

The Refreshing Voice's vision is to become the most infectious read in 2011. With the help of smart contributors like yourself, I know the goal is within reach.

I'll aim for 3 to 4 blogs a week now, but bear with me-- I am newer to this blogging scene and feel that my style will form as I get more settled in my new home in Boston, Massachusetts.

I hope you'll start checking me out.
